Mobility is vital for the economic functioning of society. The growing demand for mobility requires sustainable and intelligent solutions in the areas of accessibility, health, and the quality of nature and the environment. To contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable world, VDL is fully engaged in the development and production of innovative mobility solutions, such as vehicle electrification and thereby reducing emissions.
VDL Groep is a prominent player in sustainable mobility. Originally starting as a supplier of metal and plastic components for the automotive industry, our activities have now expanded to include the development and production of electric buses, electrification of heavy vehicles, and vehicle assembly. VDL plays a leading role in Europe in this field. We also focus on smart mobility challenges such as design, connectivity, energy management, autonomous driving, mobility as a service, and battery technology. Our solutions are designed in-house and applied across various platforms – from public transport and coaches to vans, trucks, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) – with vehicles increasingly functioning as data collectors, providing feedback on both performance and environmental data.
Revenue Development
The revenue in Mobility has decreased from €1.399 billion in 2024 to €1.325 billion in 2025, a decline of 5 percent. Market conditions in the automotive industry remain challenging due to significant price increases and delayed investments as a result of the transition to electric driving.
Outlook
For 2026, an equal turnover is expected in the world of Mobility. The market for buses and passenger cars remains difficult. The truck & trailer market will improve in the second half of 2026, and the market for special vehicles is expected to remain stable. Focus on further automation and optimisation of production processes, as well as close collaboration with customers, remains essential for our supply companies to address future challenges in the automotive industry.
