The high-tech companies of VDL are engaged in the development and production of the world's most complex components, modules, and systems. In this way, we help to make the world better, faster, and safer. As a system supplier of high-tech equipment for the semiconductor, analytical, aerospace, and healthcare sectors, our strength lies in the development of vacuum systems, rapid processing techniques, and extremely precise products and processes. VDL supports the complete process from (co-)design and engineering to production, assembly, and quality control. Through intensive cooperation with customers, we build a healthier, safer, and smarter world every day.
Revenue Development
The consolidated revenue in Hightech declined from €2.125 billion in 2024 to €1.925 billion in 2025, a decrease of 9 percent. The 'hold the line' approach in the semiconductor industry, which was initiated in 2024, continued into 2025. Therefore, in 2025, alongside strengthening our position in the semiconductor industry, significant investments were made in new market segments aligned with the competencies of our high-tech companies. Consider metrology, defence, laser communication, and aerospace. With our expertise in manufacturing and scaling of complex products, VDL ETG can make a valuable contribution to these markets.
In the second half of 2025, these investments began to materialise. This resulted, among other things, in the first orders from European and American players in the aerospace segment for satellite components and assembly, modules for earth observation, and optical platforms. Additionally, we are expanding our network further in Asia and have taken initial steps in segments such as hybrid bonding, quantum technology, nuclear fusion and fission, and X-ray metrology.
Geopolitical Impact
The market is changing rapidly, partly due to shifts in the geopolitical landscape and the ongoing pace of innovation, for example through the deployment of AI. In the high-tech and medical worlds, larger players are increasingly looking for reliable local suppliers that contribute to a stable and high-quality supply climate.
This development influences VDL’s growth strategy and investment policy as a global contract manufacturer. We are based in Europe, America, and Asia, enabling us to supply our customers locally around the world, thus reducing the impact of geopolitical developments. As a result, our activities in China are shifting towards 'installed base' support and enabling the local-for-local policy of our Western customers. Additionally, our activities in the United States are further strengthened. In June 2025, the new VDL ETG Vietnam facility was opened.
Electronics
The high-tech electronics market stabilised in 2025, despite ongoing pressure from unpredictability in the supply chain and increasing quality requirements. Following the acquisition of VDL Sintecs in early 2026, our position as an Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) partner has been further strengthened.
Outlook
The outlook for the Hightech world is positive. For 2026, we expect significant growth in the semiconductor industry and defence. Additionally, new markets will also contribute to further revenue growth.
